Measurement Errors

Measurement errors can happen if the monitor has an installation problem, damage or a low battery level. Here are some possible problems and how to troubleshoot them.

In the Mobile App:

If you have a yellow offline icon and suspect that there is damage to your monitor you can check by connecting with bluetooth at the installation site.

In the diagnostics screen tap Test Measurement and then tap Take Test Measurement. Try this two or three times if you get an error.

If the Test Measurement Result is correct and there is no damage to your monitor the battery may need to be replaced or there could be a network issue. Contact us at Waterwatch and we will look into it for you.

There may be an installation problem if you get either of the following messages:

  1. Monitor is too far. Please move it and retry.

  2. Error getting a test measurement. Please retry or contact Waterwatch Support.

Tank Monitor installation issues

A common reason for these errors is that the monitor is too close when the water is at its highest water level. While the monitor is designed to read from a minimum distance of 200mm it is best to leave 300mm.

Otherwise, there can be interference inside the tank from pipes or ball cocks. if you have a Devan tank, metal in the center at the top can interfere if the monitor is installed above it.

If the monitor is installed on an angle, the measurements will be incorrect or fail. Angled mounting shims are available for sale at waterwatch.io

If installation changes do not solve the problem please contact us at Waterwatch and we will look into it for you.

Enviromental Monitors

These monitors should have a clear view of the water to measure correctly. Make sure there are no rocks or grasses under the monitor. Frequent waves can cause measurement issues. Let us know and we can adjust your radar settings to help.

If the monitor is installed on an angle, the measurements will be incorrect or fail.

If installation issues are not the cause of the error please contact us at Waterwatch and we will look into it for you.

Check the web app for more information:

Login to your Waterwatch Live dashboard at waterwatch.io and you may see one of the following errors:

  1. The sensor is too close to the water surface. Please adjust the sensor's position. (In Admin Tools Tab - Too Close)

  2. The sensor is having some difficulties detecting the water surface. (In Admin Tools Tab - Nothing Found, Too Far)

  3. Oops! The sensor encountered an internal error during the last measurement. Please contact Waterwatch Support if this continues. (In Admin Tools Tab - Bad Sensor)

If errors 1 and 2 are not fixed by adjusting the installation or you see error 3 please contact us at Waterwatch and we will look into it for you.

Error Codes

The sensor is damaged (E1)

Applicable sensor types: All

Waterwatch sensors are waterproof. If this message shows up, it's very likely that the sensor has been damaged accidentally or intentionally. Therefore, please try to install the sensor at a hidden spot with some necessary protections to interference or damage.

If you see this error, please check if the sensor is intact. If the sensor is broken, please contact the Waterwatch support team for repair or replacement.

Too far from the surface (E2)

Applicable sensor types: LS1, LS1-10M, LS1P, LS1P-20M

This means the sensor is too far from the surface to get a valid measurement. Please click here to view the valid ranges for different types of sensors. If you see this error frequently with LS1 or LS1-10M, please try the following instructions:

  • Make sure the distance between the sensor module and the measured surface is always within the maximum range of the sensor.

  • Make sure the sensor is pointing vertically (90°) to the water surface.

  • If possible, the sensor is better to be placed over an area of flat water; try to avoid constant swirls or waves.

If you see this error frequently with LS1-P or LS1P-20M, please try moving the sensor higher to get valid measurements.

Too close to the surface (E3)

Applicable sensor types: All

This means the sensor is too close to the water surface to get a valid measurement. Please click here to view the valid ranges for different types of sensors. If you see this error frequently with LS1, LS1-10M, LS1-R or T35, please try the following instructions:

  • Make sure the distance between the sensor module and the measured surface is always larger than the minimum range of the sensor.

  • Make sure there are no obstacles (e.g. grass, bush branches, rocks) between the sensor and the water surface.

If you see this error frequently with LS1-P or LS1P-20M, please try moving the sensor lower to get valid measurements.

Having difficulties detecting the surface (E5)

Applicable sensor types: T35, LS1-R The cause of this error is usually hard to identify the surface. The possible causes could be the bad position of the sensor, surface movement, obstacles, no surface detected in the valid range, broken sensor, low battery etc. If you see this error frequently, please try the following instructions:

  • Check the installation of the sensor against the mentioned causes.

  • Contact the Waterwatch support team.

Invalid measurement (E4)

Applicable sensor types: All This means the sensor has received an invalid measurement which will not be recognised as an effective measurement. Invalid measurements are usually caused by the temporary change of the environment (mainly the state of the water surface). Generally, no further attention is required in such cases. The measurements should go back to normal soon enough. However, if the sensor keeps sending invalid measurements, please try the following instructions:

  • Check if the sensor is moved, or if the screws are loose.

  • Check if there are obstacles (could be moving things) between the sensor and the water surface.

  • And/or contact the Waterwatch support team.

Outside the sensor's range

Applicable sensor types: T35 This means the sensor has received an invalid measurement which is lower than the minimum depth or higher than the maximum depth of the tank. If you see this error frequently, please contact the Waterwatch support team.
